Enterprise software is the software developed to satisfy the needs of an organization rather than individual users. This software is an important part of a computer-based Information system in an organization. When this software is combined, it is known as an enterprise system.
Enterprise software is mainly used for automated billing, online shopping, interactive product catalog, customer relationship management, human resource management, manufacturing, project management, business intelligence, and online payment processing.
Types of Enterprise Software
In this post, we would see the most common type of enterprise software. Since this blog was published, we might see many enterprise software that might have appeared in the market. But we will cover a few of the important enterprise software that is popular in the market.
Human Resource(HR) Management
When we talk about enterprise, we are talking of many employees in a number of thousands. The human resource department needs to take care of things like hiring, onboarding, firings, promotions, retirements, vacations, and PTO (Paid Time Off).
For example, Walmart has more than 2 million people working under them, among which half of them would be full-time employees. It would take a lot of labor hours and time for an employee or a team to handle this many workers by themselves. For this reason, organizations use enterprise-based software which is specialized for their needs. Some HR-related tasks might be different for the various geographical locations with complex labor legislation. That’s, why work done by the HR department, is important for the organization as failure to comply with this legislation might result in financial consequences.
Payroll Department
Although the payroll department comes under the Human resource department in several organizations, it needs specialized software as its work functions are different from the HR department. The payroll department needs professionals such as accountants who take care of finances and needs their own specialized software.
Email System
An organization that has many customers needs a proper email communication system that can handle the large volume while keeping the communications secure. Email software such as Microsoft Outlook has been a popular choice among large organizations to communicate with each other.
Customer Support
As an enterprise has many customers, there is always a chance some customers have a problem for which the enterprise needs to provide a solution. That is the reason, most enterprises have a customer support department that provides support to customer problems by using the ticketing system, chat, or email. This support department helps customers and thus gains their support. On the other hand, they keep track of issues through ticketing systems that customers might face. These tickets help to gather metrics that can help to identify the common pattern among the issues faced by the customer. These common pattern helps the enterprise to identify any defects/bugs their software or process have.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
Enterprise Resource Planning or ERP is a process that maintains the integrated management of the main business process in an organization. Using the ERP-based software, organizations can track their resources and the status of the business events. They facilitate the sharing of the data across the departments of an organization and even to external stakeholders.
